Interesting Infocom Story...

Did you know Infocom had plans to release a sequel to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? Neither did I...

Not only can you read the story behind this, but you can play an abbreviated prototype.

I often ponder whether the Z-machine format (or any other single player text-based Interactive Fiction) has any modern applicability, but whenever I look back at related topics, it always triggers great memories. The quality of the writing just does such a great job of capturing the imagination.

And Inform blows my mind. It makes it so ridiculously easy to write Interactive Fiction. It also makes me think about how much hard work writing the original Infocom titles must have been without tools like this.

It's hard to believe HHTTG was released in 1984!

I still remember purchasing it and opening the box like it was yesterday.

Idle Speculation

Laurie Fisher interviewing as the Tahs as head coach? If there's an opening in ACT, then how about Rod Kafer becoming head coach of his beloved Brumbies?

(Would be ashame if Kafer left Fox; he's brought a previously absent level of competence to their analysis and commentating)

I don't often agree with Campo, but he has it right in his column regarding the state of the union. I, for one, will not be sad to see Arvid Petersen get bulleted as chairman on Monday assuming there is any justice in this world. It's not that I disagree on what he says - I really believe Ewen does need to adjust his tactics given that he doesn't have the kickers to play the conservative style that he favours. But Arvid, completely unnecessarily, created a lot of distractions for this team by discussing with the media what should have been sorted out behind closed doors.

While still on Rugby, the Reds (in their loss against the Sharks last week) played some of the grittiest and most inspired football that I've seen in recent years. If they keep improving consistently like they have in the last few weeks, we may very well be witnessing the genesis of a powerhouse up north we have not seen since Conolly's Reds from the Super10's. I think a lot of it will hinge on whether they can get Quade Cooper re-signed.

I continue to ponder: he might be getting on, but how can the ARU let Latho go to the Northern Hemisphere?!

Ignore that he's the best FB in the game right now; we've always known he has passion, but just think about the leadership he's displayed over the last few weeks...

Arrested Development

Speaking of which, it seems official (as of a month ago) that the actors, directors and writers are all onboard to do a feature film based on the TV series. A script hasn't been finished by Michael Hurwitz yet, but Universal seems interested in possibly picking it up.

Best news in ages!
